The Slovak Building of the Year is one of the most prestigious construction awards in the region. During the final evening at Bratislava Castle, broadcast live by STVR, the main prize went to the extension of Aupark Bratislava — a project on which we created the largest green facade in Central Europe.

On the riverfront just a short distance from the SNP Bridge, more than 44,000 plants are growing. Across 690 m², up to 18 metres in height and 130 metres in length. The facade captures approximately one tonne of CO₂ per year and cools its surroundings like seventy air-conditioning units — without using a single kilowatt-hour. It was precisely this fusion of architecture and living nature that the expert jury highlighted as the main reason for the victory.
Chairman of the Board Jan Musil received the award on behalf of LIKO-S:
"This is a great success for everyone who took part in this complex project. And at the same time, it is a strong confirmation that our direction — to create better buildings for people and nature — is the right one. Living walls and facades are becoming one of the key directions in architecture and construction. We are creating this trend, and thanks to our work, life in cities will be better in a few decades."
The victory in Bratislava follows the nomination we reported on a few weeks ago. For us, it is further proof that living buildings are not a vision of the future — they are the answer to how we should build cities today, cities capable of withstanding heatwaves, drought and the pressure of climate change. And that a Czech family company from Moravia knows how to build them across Europe.
