Fifteen years ago, India wasn't even on our radar.
Then came a chance encounter at the MSV trade fair in Brno with an entrepreneur from Bengaluru. Instant chemistry, shared values, and his enthusiasm grabbed us by the sleeve. A few months later, we were sitting in our first business meeting in India, looking around in wonder.
For the first few years, we imported products and sold them through local partners. It worked — but only to a point. In 2017, we had to face a question that wasn't easy to answer: go all in, or say goodbye to the Indian dream? We chose the first option. We set up a branch and started manufacturing directly in India.
Costly mistakes followed. Nobody told us how to hire people, how to finance a branch, or how to build a supply chain on the other side of the world. We learned on the go — and sometimes it cost us more than we expected.
But there were also moments that convinced us we had made the right decision. Today the Indian branch operates independently, is growing steadily, and from there we supply skyscrapers in the Middle East.
Jan Musil spoke about our entire journey to successful business in India in an interview for Trade News.
